Micro-Implant Anchorage ( MIA ) in Orthodontic Treatment
- Mission : I'm possible in orthodontics-
Control of anchorage is one of the most important aspects of orthodontics. Many traditional treatment protocols have incorporated both extraoral (headgear) and intraoral (intermaxillary elastics) approaches to maintain
or reinforce anchorage. Unfortunately, patient compliance is often considered the “Achilles heel” of controlled tooth movement. Even in well motivated and cooperative patients, some malocclusions can be still impossible to treat with conventional
orthodontic treatment and methods.
Nowadays, with the help of microimplants, many cases previously thought impossible to treat with conventional treatment can now being treated. This presentation will guide
the clinician in the selection of proper microimplant sizes and shapes, the sites of microimplant placement and ways to avoid complications and improve success rates.
Case reports will illustrate the many uses of
these devices in routine orthodontic treatment, including bodily retraction of anterior teeth, Class II & III molar correction, molar intrusion in openbite patients and retraction of the entire dentition etc.
